Lawn Perfectionist Disorder (LPD) affects both men and women and manifests as a preoccupation with imagined lawn defects or an exaggerated concern about a minimal lawn defects. People with LPD develop obsessive personality types and need to feel in complete control of their natural surroundings. Society’s skewed marketing-driven standard of lawn aesthetics pressures people with LPD to resort to unsafe and environmentally destructive pesticides and fertilizers.
Like other addictive disorders, LPD leads to obsession, compulsion, loss of control, and continued activity in the face of negative consequences (such as poisoning people and pets). While excessive lawn maintenance does not offer a physical fix like drug addition, it does satisfy a psychological need like gambling.
